HEALTH

Above all, calcium is simply essential to LIFE. Calcium is key in building strong, dense bones when we are young, and keeping them strong and healthy as we age. 99% of the calcium in our bodies is found in our bones and teeth where it is the structure to growth and function. Knowing that our bones are the structural foundation of our bodies - our lives - the importance of ensuring we receive the proper amount of calcium increases greatly.

Men and women should have a regular daily intake of around 1,000 mg of calcium per day. As people age, that amount should increase to around 1,200 mg daily. Food is the best source of calcium to help reach the recommended daily dosage. Dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt are the richest sources of calcium, but it can also be found in certain green vegetables such as kale, broccoli rabe, and collard greens.

Some foods and juice are fortified with calcium and other nutrients in order to give them more nutritional value. Foods fortified with calcium include fruit juices, other drinks, cereals, grains, tofu, and cereals.

Supplements

Supplements are also a popular aid to reaching recommended calcium consumption, especially for those who are at a higher risk of a calcium deficiency. 43% of Americans rely on calcium supplements to reach adequate calcium intake levels.

Two common types of calcium supplements include Calcium Carbonate and Calcium Citrate. At US Calcium, we produce Calcium Carbonate; which protects gut health by working to neutralize stomach acids and help with absorption of other nutrients. It also protects against the risk of bone decomposition through osteoporosis and general aging.

Food Processing

Calcium is also an additive used in many foods and acts as a fortifying nutrient and filler. It is also used in the production and processing of food as an alkaline balancing agent, a curing agent, and a wide variety of other roles to utilize its safe chemical properties. It is also used in lime kilns, which are used for the extraction of sugar from sugar beets and other nutrient processing. US Calcium draws from a super high quality source that has extremely low levels of heavy metals, making it an excellent source of consumption-safe calcium.
